Perimeter Theory

The perimeter of a shape is the total distance around a shape. \begin{multicols}{2} \textbf{Example 1}\\ Given the length of one side of a rhombus is \(2.5 \text{~cm}\), find the perimeter of the rhombus.\\ \textbf{Example 1 solution}\\ A rhombus has four sides equal in length.\\ \(\begin{aligned} \therefore \text { Perimeter } & =4 \times 2.5 \\ & =10 \text{~cm} . \end{aligned}\) \columnbreak \textbf{Example 2}\\ Given the perimeter of a parallelogram is \(24 \text{~cm}\) and one side is twice the length of the other, find the length of the shorter side.\\ \textbf{Example 2 solution}\\ Let the shorter side have length \(a\) units\\ \(\therefore\) Longer side \(=2a\) units.\\ A parallelogram has equal opposite sides\\ \(\begin{aligned} \therefore \text{Perimeter}&=2 a+2 a+a+a\\ &=6a\\ 6 a & =24 \text{~cm} \\ a & =4 \text{~cm} . \end{aligned}\)\\ \(\therefore\) Shorter side is \(4 \text{~cm}\) in length. \end{multicols}
