Dividing Decimals by Decimals

20 practice questions 1 video lesson Theory + worked examples

Dividing Decimals by Decimals asks how many times one decimal fits into another, in NSW Year 7 maths (NESA outcome MA4‑FRC‑C‑01). Multiply both numbers by the same power of 10 so that the divisor becomes a whole number: \(1.2 \div 0.3\) becomes \(12 \div 3 = 4\).

You will model division with grids and number-line jumps, divide without a calculator, find missing numbers, and see that dividing by a number between 0 and 1 gives a bigger answer. Filling drink bottles from a large container and working out how many litres of petrol $45 buys are typical problems. It is part of Year 7 Decimals.
