Decimals and Fractions links two ways of writing the same amount in NSW Year 7 maths (NESA outcome MA4‑FRC‑C‑01). A terminating decimal is a fraction over 10, 100, 1000 and so on, and the place of its last digit tells you the denominator: \(0.023 = \frac{23}{1000}\).
You will write decimals as fractions in simplest form, change fractions such as \(\frac{3}{4}\) and \(\frac{3}{8}\) into decimals (including by short division), move between mixed numerals, improper fractions and decimals, and write simple percentages. Weighing flour for baking and describing part of a class are everyday examples. It is part of Year 7 Decimals.
