Perimeter

20 practice questions 1 video lesson Theory + worked examples

Perimeter is the total distance around the outside of a shape. In NSW Year 7 maths (NESA outcome MA4‑LEN‑C‑01) you find it for rectangles, rhombuses, parallelograms, kites, trapeziums and composite shapes with straight sides.

You will read tick marks to spot equal sides, use shortcuts such as \(P = 2l + 2w\) for a rectangle and \(P = 4s\) for a rhombus, work out missing sides on L-shapes before adding, and work backwards from a known perimeter to a missing length. Fencing a paddock or framing a picture are everyday examples. This subtopic is part of Year 7 Area and Volume.
