Area of Triangle

20 practice questions 1 video lesson Theory + worked examples

A triangle covers exactly half the area of a rectangle with the same base and height, so its area is \(\frac{1}{2} \times \text{base} \times \text{height}\). This NSW Year 7 maths subtopic (NESA outcome MA4‑ARE‑C‑01) focuses on choosing the right measurements from a diagram.

You will identify the perpendicular height and ignore the sloping sides, handle obtuse triangles where the height falls outside the shape, find a missing base or height by working backwards, and price the fabric for a triangular shade sail or banner. Same base and same height always give the same area. It is part of Year 7 Area and Volume.
