A pronumeral is a letter that stands for a number, and when it can take many values it is called a variable. This NSW Year 7 maths subtopic (NESA outcome MA4‑ALG‑C‑01) introduces algebraic expressions and the short way to write them.
You will complete tables of values, write products in concise notation (\(3 \times 6 \times x \times y = 18xy\), \(b \times b = b^2\)), show a division as a fraction and combine like terms such as \(6d - 4d = 2d\). Think of \(n\) cars having \(4n\) wheels: one short rule works for any number of cars in a car park. This subtopic is part of Year 7 Algebra and Equations.
