Ratio Word Problems

20 practice questions 2 video lessons Theory + worked examples

Ratio word problems ask you to share an amount using a ratio, or to find one share when another share is known. In NSW Year 7 maths the key step is always working out what one part is worth (NESA outcome MA4‑RAT‑C‑01).

You will add the terms to count the parts, share a total such as $40 in the ratio \(3:5\), use the unitary method when only one share is given, handle three-way splits and mixed units, and check that the shares add back to the total. Splitting prize money or mixing sand and cement for concrete works this way. This subtopic is part of Year 7 Ratios, Rates and Time.
