Classifying Quadrilaterals

20 practice questions 1 video lesson Theory + worked examples

A quadrilateral is a closed shape with four straight sides. This NSW Year 7 maths subtopic (NESA outcome MA4‑GEO‑C‑01) shows how to name one by its vertices and sort the special ones: square, rectangle, rhombus, parallelogram, trapezium and kite.

You will read the marks for equal sides, parallel sides and right angles, choose the most exact name, tell convex from non-convex shapes, explain why a square is also a rectangle and a rhombus, and classify a shape from its vertices on the number plane. Tiles, windows and kites show these shapes every day. It is part of Year 7 Geometry.
