Fractions of a Quantity is about finding part of an amount, such as \(\frac{3}{4}\) of 120 kg, in NSW Year 7 maths (NESA outcome MA4‑FRC‑C‑01). In maths, “of” means multiply: divide by the denominator to find one part, then multiply by the numerator.
You will find fractions of money, lengths, masses and times (changing units first where needed), use decimal amounts such as \(0.25\) of $80, work out the part left over, find a sale price, and work backwards from a part to the whole. Students in a class who play sport and a jacket marked one third off are typical examples. It is part of Year 7 Fractions.
