Numbers Above and Below Zero

20 practice questions 1 video lesson Theory + worked examples

Numbers Above and Below Zero is where integers begin in NSW Year 7 maths (NESA outcome MA4‑INT‑C‑01). A positive or negative sign shows which side of zero a number sits on, and its size shows how far from zero it is.

You will write integers for real situations such as depths below sea level, profits and car park levels, find the opposite of a number, and work out rises, falls and differences in temperature that cross zero. You will also write simple number sentences for bank balances that drop below zero after a fee. It is part of Year 7 Integers.
