A rate is a comparison of amounts with different units.\\  Examples are: running rate, metres per second, wage rate, money earned per hour, speed, kilometres per hour, cost of chemical, cost per volume.\\  \textbf{Example}\\  A hippopotamus can run at 30 km/h. Its speed in metres/second is?\\  \textbf{Solution}\\ $\begin{aligned} \frac{30 \text{ km}}{\text{1 hour}}&=\frac{30\times 1000~\text{m}}{60\times 60~\text{ secs}}\\ &=8.3~\text{m/sec} \end{aligned}$\\
