Integration by partial fractions is part of the Further integration topic in NSW Year 12 Mathematics Extension 2 (NESA outcome ME2-12-04). This subtopic splits a rational function into simpler partial fractions when its denominator factors into different linear terms, repeated linear terms, or quadratics that cannot be factorised over the reals.
Students and teachers will cover how to set up and solve for the unknown constants and then integrate each simpler fraction — the standard route to integrating rational functions in the HSC Extension 2 course.
