The Argand Diagram (Complex Plane)
20 practice questions
2 video lessons
Theory + worked examples
The Argand diagram is a core part of the Complex numbers topic in NSW Year 12 Mathematics Extension 2 (NESA outcome ME2-12-03). This subtopic draws each complex number \(a + ib\) on the complex plane (the Argand diagram) at the point \((a, b)\), with a real and an imaginary axis, so complex numbers can be seen as well as calculated.
Students and teachers will cover plotting and reading points, quadrants, the conjugate as a reflection in the real axis, sums as parallelograms, and distances and midpoints between points — building the geometric intuition used in the rest of the HSC Extension 2 complex numbers topic.
