Blood Alcohol Content

Your blood alcohol content (or BAC) measures the number of grams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. A BAC of 0.05 means that you have 0.05 grams (50mg) of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The formulas below estimate your BAC.

BAC = blood alcohol content
N = number of standard drinks consumed
H = hours spent drinking
M = mass of person (in kilograms)

\(\text{BAC}_{\text{male}}=\dfrac{(10n-7.5h)}{6.8M}\)

\(\text{BAC}_{\text{female}}=\dfrac{(10n-7.5h)}{5.5M}\)

Hours to wait before driving

The number of hours you should wait before driving is given by the formula:

\(\text{Number of hours}=\dfrac{\text{BAC}}{0.015}\)
