Prime Factors Theory

A prime number is a number that can only be divided by itself and 1.\\  To determine a number as the product of its prime factors, you begin by dividing the number by the smallest prime number. \begin{multicols}{2}  \textbf{Example 1}\\ what is 240 as a product of its prime factors?\\  \textbf{Example 1 solution}\\ \(\begin{aligned} 240 & =2 \times 120 \\ & =2 \times 2 \times 60 \\ & =2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 30 \\ & =2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 2 \times 15 \\ & =2^4 \times 3 \times 5. \end{aligned}\)  \columnbreak \textbf{Example 2}\\ What is the highest common factor (HCF) of 42 and 63?\\  \textbf{Example 2 solution}\\ \(\begin{aligned} 42 & =2 \times 21 \\ & =2 \times 3 \times 7 \\ 63 & =3 \times 21 \\ & =3 \times 3 \times 7 \end{aligned}\)\\ \(\therefore  21\) is the HCF \end{multicols}
